To me, VCDS is an absolute steal, considering you get a functional and reliable interface, that you can use for a number of tasks.

I never have even looked twice at various 'OBD scanners' or 'VAG-scanners'. I opted for the full version, and I don't regret it. If you are able to use the adapter to talk to other control modules in the car (or other cars) reliably, then that suggests (to me) a fault in the control module.įinally, I would add that I have owned VCDS lite (non-CAN) which I upgraded after changing to a newer car, where everything is CAN. Then you basically start the car, and turn the steering wheel left around one turn, right around two turns (one in each direction), and then drive a short distance (~10-40 meters) in a straight line. You should see error lights for steering system and ESP. A method to do it, without VCDS, is to leave the car with it's battery disconnected over a weekend or so, and then reconnect the battery. I'm going out on a limb here, but if your steering angle sensor requires adaptation, then it should basically almost have happened on it's own. On purchasing the activation for VCDS Lite, how long does it take normally to be set up or is it just a case of me inputting a licence number ? One of the things I have problems with is when I select (03) ABS / brake electronics, it chews on it for a while and a box comes up saying ‘too many communication errors’ and as I need to reset my steering angle sensor to put the light out on the dashboard I need to see if it should work and if VCDS Lite will enable me to sort this sensor procedure out or whether I need full VCDS? Also Ive got another ECU ( ECM) that I need to do an adaption to my car – I believe It uses immo 2 so should be straightforward but again, I just need to make sure VCDS Lite can perform this task and save it? Is it possible to add / code key fobs using Lite too?

Anyway, I have an interface that has the FTDI FT232 chip, I have tested it and it appears to work but I need to make sure it is going to do everything I need before registering / activating. Initially I was looking at VCDS Lite as I wont be using the software to any great extent and I don’t expect to keep the car long term / don’t know if id have another Audi or VW. I have an Audi S3 8L (Year 2000) and have a few things I need to tackle on it and was considering my options with VCDS. I'm a newbie to this forum ,any pointers would be greatly appreciated
